Today we’re all set to begin our latest adventure by driving from Pittsburgh to Bar Harbor, Maine. We’re both excited because neither of us have ever been to Maine. It’s another state we can check off our list and we both love seafood.
The start of the journey I knew was going to be rough as its about a 14 hour drive. We were beginning our trip at midnight with about 2-3 hours of sleep. Not the best way to begin a road trip. But to make matters worse before we departed I noticed that I can’t locate my bank card. I can’t stand to lose things. Losing something as important as a bank card right before a big trip is the worst.
I believe I must have left it in the ATM the day before and just didn’t realize it until then. There wasn’t much that could be done about it then so I called the bank and had them place a hold on my account just in case.
Maura offered to drive first since she was awake and I took the time to catch some more sleep. Then we began to alternate every two hours or so to stay fresh.
Once we arrived we checked into this charming motel that hand all these old features such as a weird coffee maker that was mounted to the wall.
Wanting to get something to clear our throats of the road dust, we freshened up and headed into the downtown area. Bar Harbor has quite a few bars with craft beer and even a local brewery. The place we decided to check out was the Finback Alehouse. There were seats at the bar so we got to ask the bar tender some questions about the area and even about our next stop in Portland.
From there we walked around the town a bit and checked out the local bookstore. But it was getting late so we wanted to get some dinner.
Right on the pier is a restaurant that lets you sit outside and had a good seafood combo where we both had the best clam chowder called Stewmans Lobster Pound. We each had lobster and then I discovered my new favorite pie. Blueberry pie is very popular in Maine and I can see why. I’m amazed I had never tried it before.
After dinner we headed back to the hotel to get some sleep as we ;had a few things to do the next day and were pretty beat from the drive.
