Day 2 of our Finger Lakes journey started with breakfast at the Captain’s Room. I found it by Googling brunch near me and they seemed to be the least hassle to get into. I didn’t feel like wasting my time in a line when there are better things to do.
The food was pretty good. Mostly standard breakfast fare. The service seemed to be a little off. At first they brought me the wrong plate of food and then they forgot my bacon. I suspect it went on the first plate they brought me and didn’t get transferred. Of course someone’s baby started screaming as well. Otherwise it was quiet place to eat breakfast.
Our next stop was to check out some antiques. So we went up the street from the Captain’s Room to the Geneva Antique Co-Op. It’s two floors full of stuff. Lots of old toys, baseball cards, some military stuff and a whole room full of records. In the basement are long boxes full of comic books as well. It’s insane.
From there we tried to check out Lake Drum Brewing but they didn’t open until 1:00 and I didn’t feel like waiting. So instead we got in the car and decided to head over to War Horse Brewing which is owned by 3 Brothers Winery. It is as they describe it ‘a destination.’

The first thing I noticed was the number of tour buses and the packed parking lot. This place was huge but it was still crowded. There were multiple groups of bachelorette parties going on. Drunk people all wearing the same t-shirt. This was not a good sign as they stumbled their way out of the wine slushie hut.
Maura and I took a quick look around before ducking into the brewery building to avoid the chattering bridesmaid brigade that had descended upon the port o’ johns. War Horse Brewing took the theme of the place to a whole new level. Lots of old war memorabilia. We each grabbed a flight and found a spot to sit down out of the way.

From there we wanted to start trying some wine. That was the reason we were there after all. The closest winery I had on my list was Ventosa. If you had blindfolded me and snuck me in there I would have thought we were at Olive Garden. It had a lot of the same smells and decor. We pushed through and found a spot at the bar and started sampling. Our server was very nice and the wines were tasty. However we weren’t given any water for palate cleansing and the wines were all served in the same glass.

Our next stop was Montezuma Winery. This place was deceptive to me. It was very packed when we went in and I thought I wasn’t going to like it. While I used the bathroom Maura took note of a boisterous laugh coming from one of the bartenders and decided we had to go to her section. This lady had such high energy and was having such a great time that you’d think she was on the wrong side of the bar. She had a great knowledge of the wines and left a great impression on us. Maura bought four bottles of wine and I got one wine and some of their whiskey.

Izzo’s was next on my list. I drove right past the building and had to turn around. This was a great little spot for a wine tasting. There were only a couple of us in the place and eventually it was just Maura, myself and the bartender. The bartender was great and gave us lots of information. We sampled a lot of really great wines and left with a few more bottles of wine. The wine maker came out with a growler of beer he made and shared some of it with us. It was a really good brew and I hope they someday expand from just wine to serving beer.

After that we tried to get to Naked Dove Brewing since we had tried a few of their beers on tap at other places but once we got to the parking lot we realized they were closing soon so we left to find dinner.
After searching on Google we decided to try the Beehive Brew Pub. It sits right near the railroad tracks and looked like it would be a good spot. The tap list wasn’t very inspiring. They were out of the beer I originally wanted so I had to substitute which always makes me feel rushed. We tried the Irish egg rolls which were actual egg roll size. They were pretty good. I tried to pick a safe option from the menu and went with the mushroom, swiss burger. It was pretty unremarkable.
We decided to call it a day after that but stopped to get some pictures of the sunset.
